Disney have announced their intention to re-release The Lion King in 3D.Originally planned as a Blu-ray only release, the classic 1994 movie will now be placed in cinemas around the world, to either enthrall or appall fans, depending on your point of view.
Disney’s track record with 3D is patchy, at best, with recent release Pirates of the Caribbean: on Stranger Tides not translating well once those special glasses had been put on.
Also, with a recent audience backlash against the inflated prices of tickets to 3D shows, it remains to be seen if people will be as willing to see it as much as Disney clearly anticipates.
The Lion King will experience it’s own personal circle of life when it hits theatres on September 16th.
